CLASSES

Urban Poetry Dance (UPD) highly focuses on teaching the technique and foundations of each style and offers a range of classes for students from 15 years up to Adults. Students not only learn how to dance, but also how to perform.

 

UPD also teaches students about musicality, not only focusing on the lyrical aspects of a song, but also the beats and back beats. All choreographies produced by UPD allows the students to tell a story through dance.

Each class will learn various routines. through the year. Some classes may be asked to perform at events during the year (if the opportunity arises). These performances are not compulsory, however prior notice will be given if this occurs. 

​

Unfortunately UPD no longer offers kids classes.

HIP HOP (URBAN CHOREOGRAPHY)

 

Hip Hop is a popular street dance style that originated from the United States. Today what some people consider as Hip Hop" is actually a fusion of various Urban genres such as Hip Hop, Funk, Street Jazz, Dancehall, House and Disco. It's the fusion of these styles that people see in music video's today. In this class students will be learning the technique and foundations of various styles such as Party Moves, Breaking, Popping, 

Locking, Krump, Tutting, Waacking & More. Students will also learn the importance of "Grooves" and feeling the music. 

Routines will incorporate the the many styles listed above.

HEELS

 

Heels is a fusion of various dance styles such as Jazz, Hip Hop & Burlesque...It's Sexiness with class. These lessons are great for strengthening your core, building confidence and feeling sexy. It not only teaches you how to dance in heels, but also how to walk and move confidently in heels and use your hair to your advantage. You will learn various isolations, body movement, how to pose, use lines and shapes, tipping, and so much more. If you like how Beyonce moves in those videos, then this class is for you. 

DANCEHALL

 

Dancehall is a dance style that originated from the streets of Jamaica.  The popularity of dancehall has spawned dance moves that help to make parties and stage performances more energetic. Many dance moves seen in hip hop videos are actually variations of dancehall steps.  Popular artists like Sean Paul & Elephant Man showcase many Dancehall moves in their videos.  In these classes you will learn body isolations, how to "whine", and dancehall grooves. With Dancehall's huge vocabulary, you will learning many dancehall steps from old skool to new.
